Musical picnics in Ojców

This is an event whose roots should be sought in times when the Ojców were a health resort at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

On the last two Sundays of May (22 and 29.05.2016) there will be the Majówka Music Festival in Ojców.

This is an event whose roots should be sought in times when the Fathers served as a spa at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It was visited mainly by the inhabitants of the Congress Kingdom, for whom it was the southernmost place of the Russian partition and the most picturesque place in the mountains where you could rest, heal the "general irritability" and "skin remorse" and feel the breeze of free Galicia. Like other spa towns, concerts were held in the concert shell in the center of the village.

In order to revive the musical traditions from the time of the spa in Ojców, the idea of organizing a music festival was created. Because picturesque paternal rocks are, apart from golden autumn, the most beautiful in May, that's why they attract crowds of tourists, thirsty for silence and the view of beauty, away from the city noise.

If we add a good, high-quality classical music to it, which does not always mean well-known works and well-known performers, then we have a rich aesthetic experience guaranteed.

In the first concert on 22.05. the combined forces of two young Cracow choirs under the direction of Małgorzata Mazur will appear: the academic choir of the Academy - Cantus Firmus and the choir of the Secondary School No. VIII - Canticum Canticorum. The choir will perform the Completorium of Grzegorz Gerwazy Gorczycki - one of the most prominent creators of Polish baroque music. In the first part of the concert, we will hear solo performances by a few well-known and less known artists, and the performers will be graduates of the Academy of Music in Kraków: Magdalena Drozd (soprano), Daria Proszek (mezzo-soprano), Krzysztof Michalski (tenor) and Jan Spytek (bass). Accompaniment will be provided by Barbara Hawling.

Second concert 29.05. will be dedicated to the music of the 17th century Masters. Teresa Piech will play the violin and Anna Wiktoria Swoboda will play the theory. Both ladies, graduates of the Krakow Academy of Music, for many years, under the supervision of the most eminent masters, perfected the art of playing instruments from the Baroque period. They regularly give concerts at home and abroad and provide their knowledge and skills to young musicians.

Free for the public concerts, scheduled for 16:30, will be held in the chamber hall of the Hotel near Łokietek, in the center of Ojców (building of the Education and Museum Center). The concerts are directed primarily to tourists who visit the Fathers on May weekends, but also to those who practice "concert tourism" and come specially for a good concert.

We invite everyone who is familiar with good music and beautiful views of the Musical Picnic in Ojców.
